NEW YORK STATE PUBLIC EMPLOYEES FEDERATION ENDORSES MAYOR BROWN FOR RE-ELECTION

Action Follows Consideration by PEF’s Region 1 Political Action Committee and PEF’s Statewide Political Action Committee

BUFFALO – The New York State Public Employees Federation has announced its endorsement of Mayor Byron W. Brown for re-election as Mayor of the City of Buffalo.

In a joint letter from Kevin R. Hintz, PEF Region 1 Coordinator and Barbara Rock, PEF Region 1 Political Action Committee Chair, the union leaders wrote, “After much consideration by the Region 1 Political Action Committee (PAC) as well as the PEF Statewide PAC, we are endorsing your candidacy.”

“The members of the New York State Public Employees Federation have made and continue to make important contributions to our city, region and state. I’m very honored to receive the endorsement of this great union organization,” said Mayor Brown. “As I have said many times, upon taking office in 2006 as the 58th Mayor of Buffalo, I set a priority of fulfilling my 2005 campaign pledge to lift the previously state control board-imposed wage freeze for all city employees, which allowed us to increase employee wages, bringing all full-time city employees up to the living wage and negotiated four new union contracts for city employees. I thank the members of the New York State Public Employees Federation District for their support and I look forward to working with them as I continue my goal of making the City of Buffalo safer, stronger and smarter.”

In addition to the support of the New York State Public Employees Federation, Mayor Brown has received the endorsement of District Council 35, AFSCME Local 264, the Buffalo Teachers Federation; SEIU Local 200 United; Building Trade Inspectors Association Local 2651; AFSCME Local 650; Boilermakers Local # 7; the International Union of Elevator Constructors, Local 14; the Buffalo Building & Construction Trades Council; the Western New York Chapter of the Working Families Party; the Erie County Independence Party; the Erie County Conservative Party; the Western New York Hispanic & Friends Association; Goin’ South; and the Buffalo Educational Support Team.
