UNITED STEELWORKERS ENDORSE MAYOR BROWN FOR RE-ELECTION

Union Cites Mayor’s Support of “Issues of Importance to Labor and All Working Men and Women Throughout Western New York”

BUFFALO – The United Steelworkers District 4 has announced its endorsement of Mayor Byron W. Brown for re-election as Mayor of the City of Buffalo.

Frank Palombaro, Legislative Chairman of United Steelworkers, District 4, wrote in a August 20th letter to Mayor Brown, “The United Steelworkers District 4 Legislative committee is pleased to announce our official endorsement of your re-election as the Mayor of the City of Buffalo. The Steelworkers believe you share our core values of family, jobs and community and will support the issues of importance to labor and all working men and women throughout Western New York.”

“The United Steelworkers have a strong and proud tradition of building the structures that have made our city, county, state and country great and I thank them for supporting my campaign to serve a second term as Mayor of Buffalo,” said Mayor Brown. “Their motto – Unity and Strength for Workers – reflects their commitment to supporting the rights of the working men and women of our community, which I share completely. Upon taking office in 2006 as the 58th Mayor of Buffalo, I set a priority of fulfilling my 2005 campaign pledge to lift the previously state control board-imposed wage freeze for all city employees, which allowed us to increase employee wages, bringing all full-time city employees up to the living wage and negotiated four new union contracts for city employees. I thank the members of the New York State Public Employees Federation District for their support and I look forward to working with them as I continue my goal of making the City of Buffalo safer, stronger and smarter.”

In addition to the support of the United Steelworkers District 4, Mayor Brown has received the endorsement of the New York State Public Employees Federation; District Council 35; AFSCME Local 264; the Buffalo Teachers Federation; SEIU Local 200 United; Building Trade Inspectors Association Local 2651; AFSCME Local 650; Boilermakers Local # 7; the International Union of Elevator Constructors, Local 14; the Buffalo Building & Construction Trades Council; the Western New York Chapter of the Working Families Party; the Erie County Independence Party; the Erie County Conservative Party; the Western New York Hispanic & Friends Association; Goin’ South; and the Buffalo Educational Support Team.
